Amos Smith (1816-1887) was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and graduated from Harvard College in 1838 and from the Harvard Divinity School in 1842. After his ordination to the Unitarian ministry in December 1842, he became the colleague pastor of Rev. Dr. Francis Parkman at the New North Church on Hanover Street in Boston.
